GHANA
In Ghana, there are 10 administrative regions and 138 districts (Figure 1 insert Ghana Map) and decentralization is up to the community level. However, the activities of this project will be implemented at sub-district level which is regarded as the fundamental socio-geographical unit area. The project is started from Ada-Foah which is one of the five sub-districts of the Dangme East District (Figure 2 insert Dangme East District Map).
The CDD model through Community Development Association (CDA) is being adapted to Ada-Foah, and then replicated in the other four sub-districts (Big Ada, Kasseh, Sege, and Anyamam) as well as in other districts in the country where local government and other stakeholders are ready to invest in disease control and related poverty reduction activities during the period of the first five (5) years.
This will include Agona District in the Central Region and another area in the Volta Region whose chiefs have taken the initiative to get involved. Potential start-up areas are being identified in other interested African countries through advocacy with stakeholders.
