CDDF Clean School Initiative

Mr. Reynolds Lartey, a former Health Teacher of Pute Presbyterian Basic School in the Dangme East District has started sustainable health promoting school activities in his new school, Nungua Presbyterian Basic School, located near Accra. The “CDDF Clean School Initiative” being supervised by Mr. Lartey, in the Nungua local area, is aimed at improving personal and environmental hygiene starting from the local school and providing a platform to launch a community campaign for sustainable environment, education, health, and socio-economic development. Through this effort, therefore, the Nungua metropolis will become one of the first urban communities where CDDF approach will be initiated in the near future.

According to Mr. Lartey, his motivation is derived from experiences with community-based development activities in the Dangme East District, and life-changing health training, symposia and workshops organized by Community Directed Development Foundation (CDDF) Africa and partner organizations including the West African Centre for International Parasite Control (WACIPAC).
Mr. Lartey observed in agreement with CDDF President, Prof. K. M. Bosompem, that the vision of CDDF Africa, includes the development of clean and self-motivated communities in Ghana and Africa as a whole. This vision seeks to achieve rapid socio-economic development in local communities, utilizing the joint efforts of all stakeholders.

It is expected that the CDDF Clean School Initiative in Nungua will benefit from school health activities being promoted by the Ghana School Health Education Programme (SHEP), Coordinated by Mrs. Ellen Bernice Mensah at the national level and Mrs. Dora Arday in the Dangme East District.

Staff of the Nungua Presbyterian Basic School involved in the CDDF Clean School Initiative are led by the Head Mistress, Janet Owusu Ampau. The other teachers are: Elizabeth Boadi, Sank Shei, Doris Akufo Minta, Divine Ablor, Theresah Eshun, Rose Addo Boateng, Araba Cantil, Maxwell Kodua, Paulina Kotey, Dorothy Akom, Comfort Amoako and Patricia Adotey.
