CDDF NETWORK
CDDF supports the formation of Community Development Associations (CDAs) as well as offshoot Parasite Control Associations (PCAs) in the project areas and strengthen their organization through; 1. Training of key partners, 2. Provision of research support by CDD Student Pioneers, 3. Provision of essential resources for capability building towards disease control, poverty reduction initiatives, and networking which, strengthens the communities to mobilize internal local resources for sustainability. The CDAs will network and link up with CDDF headquarters in Ghana to form the CDDF Network.
Within a country, CDAs which are established in target socio-geographical project areas (in Sub-districts or Towns) will link up to form District CDAs, which will in turn link up to form Regional CDAs, and ultimately National CDA. However, only the Sub-district and Town CDAs will implement intervention programmes.
In a country, the wider CDAs (National CDA, Regional CDAs and District CDAs) will provide assistance in terms of logistics, trained human resources and technical support for efficient execution of activities and networking. Through such support, local CDAs will draw up their own implementation plans to integrate interventions for the control diseases such as intestinal worms, bilharzia, malaria, HIV and TB. Similarly, poverty reduction activities in areas such as agriculture, environment and industry will be pursued alongside resource mobilization from both local and external sources. For example, the involvement of Regional and District CDAs will enhance the process of securing local district health funds for health and development activities.
Initially, during Phase I of this project, the first CDA will be formed in the Ada-Foah sub-district. This will be followed by the establishment of similar organizations in each of the five sub-districts of the Dangme East District of Ghana. Once two CDAs are formed, the Dangme East District CDA will be established. The formation of CDAs in two or more districts in the same region of Ghana, will initiate the establishment of regional CDAs followed by a national CDA when the organizations are replicated in different regions.
There will be systematic replication of CDAs in all districts in the country until the entire nation is covered. CDDF will support the formation of CDAs in Ghana and other African countries by providing needed resources including some funds, technical support and training. CDDF will facilitate the linking-up of National CDAs from different countries to form regional level (eg. West African CDA) and ultimately continental level (Africa CDA). This network of African CDAs will be closely supported by CDDF through training to promote sustainability, peace and security and overall socio-economic progress.
CDAs formed in local socio-geographical project areas will be registered as a Community Based Organizations (CBOs). |
